Making a habit of accomplishing the impossible.

This month, Nationwide Appraisal Network (NAN) spotlights Joni Pilgrim, Co-Founder and Director of Sales & Business Development.

We recently sat down with Joni Pilgrim, who shared details about her life, about the success of NAN, the importance of its people and the core value of upholding the promise of quality and service to its clients.

Most successful women entrepreneurs will tell you that a supportive relationship at home is the key to success… Joni Pilgrim would agree. Her story is amazing. As a child, she grew up in what was at the time, considered an untraditional household, as an adult she co-founded and helped build one of the Nation’s top, and truly national appraisal management companies from the ground up. She stepped forward on a career path knowing that as long as she had the confidence and support of her family, she could apply her talent and skills to real world business… Having come from humble beginnings, both parents even though divorced remained dedicated to family, each sharing their fundamental core values and impeccable work ethics which shaped Pilgrim’s business foundation, love for life and respect for family and people.

Joni graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. During her early career in hospitality management, Pilgrim recognized her amazing interpersonal skills and that she was exceptionally good at hiring and training people.

Accomplishing what some might deem the impossible, Pilgrim realized her passion for delivering excellence in service, when a decade ago, she successfully transitioned her career path from working in hospitality to entrepreneurship, becoming a founding partner of Nationwide Appraisal Network (NAN). Her ability to adapt– to adjust very quickly with ease into various roles within the young company, soon opened doors to smart growth and business success. In 2011, she took on a more operational role, managing sales and marketing. Today, business development and brand awareness are the main focus of her daily life at NAN.

“Life is interesting, and I am proud to have followed my path, moving from the hospitality world to appraisals and real estate and becoming a woman entrepreneur. Co-Founder, Cari Burris and I built Nationwide Appraisal Network on quality and service, our core business values. We are passionate about upholding our promise of quality and service to our clients, we believe in policy and compliance, in continuing education, training, allowing professional growth and development. There is a famous quote in circulation, I believe holds true: What if we invest all this time and money into training our people and they leave? What happens if they stay and we don’t? Our team members are trained to be resources for our clients and appraisers alike. They are empowered to make decisions and act in the best interest of those that we serve”.

While Pilgrim remains focused on educating and improving business, sometimes the rest of the AMC world has to catch up to her thought leadership. She delivers a wealth of educational appraisal information, even before peers and clients realize there is a need. She is an advocate for continuing education, training, and development among her business colleagues and she continually strives to develop educational material for clients and vendors alike.

“You have to be open to learning, open to educating and sharing your experience. You have to know how to take chances, to be agile in your business and recognize when to pivot and change course based on the business environment and market conditions. There is a clear focus within our company to act as a resource for information to those we work with every day. Educating and corresponding with each other will help us all to reach new heights in our business through learning and implementing new ideas”.
